In a significant development for Shongom Local Government Area, Chairperson Hajiya Fatima Binta Bello has successfully reconnected several towns and villages to the electricity grid after more than a decade of darkness. Among the benefiting communities are Lalaifido, Lakenturum Jauro Sajo, and Filiya, marking a major milestone in the area’s long-awaited infrastructure development.

During the commissioning ceremony held in Lalaifido, Hajiya Fatima Binta Bello emphasized that the restoration of electricity is one of her administration’s key achievements, vowing to continue delivering the dividends of democracy to the people. She urged residents to safeguard government properties, stating, “This achievement is a result of our dedication to the community, and we will not stop until all other villages and towns in Shongom LGA are connected to the electricity grid.”

The Deputy Chairman of Shongom LGA, Mr. Alfred Ambrose (Gamjin Shongom), praised the leadership of Hajiya Fatima Binta Bello for her transformative work. “With the coming of Hajiya Fatima Binta Bello, a lot has been achieved in terms of delivering the dividends of democracy. We are immensely grateful to her and also to Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya for entrusting her with the leadership of our local government.”

Local leaders expressed their gratitude during the ceremony. Village Head of Lalaifido, Malam Habu Saidu Malami, commended the chairperson for reconnecting their electricity supply, which had been absent for over ten years. He also assured that the community would protect government infrastructure. Councilor for Lalaifido, Laban Burodi, expressed his appreciation, acknowledging that the chairperson had delivered a long-awaited service to his ward.

The ceremony saw an outpouring of support from the community, with hundreds of women and youth attending to witness the historic event. Among those in attendance were key local government officials, including Secretary of Shongom LGA, Alhaji Saidu Manzo Filiya, Mr. Jonathan Akawo, and Engineer Jonathan Manu Umaru, Director of Works for Shongom LGA.

The successful reconnection of electricity to these communities underscores the ongoing efforts of Hajiya Fatima Binta Bello’s administration to improve infrastructure and quality of life in Shongom LGA, with promises of more developmental projects in the near future.

Residents of the Shongo Hamma Hamma community in Tumfure quarters, Akko Local Government Area (LGA) of Gombe State, have come out in large numbers to repair a critical bridge that links their area. The road connected by this bridge runs from Ecwa Church Hausa to Shongo Hamma, Shaka Midari, Dumbona, Shongo Sarkin Yaki, and straight to Rumbuna Road.

Speaking to our reporter shortly after the community completed their work on the bridge, Ambassador Bilyaminu Gambo Isari, a community leader known as the Sarkin Tafarkin Hausawan Duniya, explained the motivation behind their efforts. “We are doing this to ensure people can access their destinations. This is the only road we have,” he stated.

Ambassador Isari called on the Gombe State Government to assist, especially during the rainy season, to ensure safe and free movement for the community.

Hon. Nafiu Usman Bello, also known as Scorpion and a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), echoed this sentiment. “We repaired the bridge just to access our homes,” he said. He urged Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to support further development projects in the Shongo Hamma community. Although the current administration has awarded a road project from Ecwa Church Hausa to Shongo Hamma, Bello stressed the need for this road to connect all nine village communities in the area. This, he argued, would allow the residents to fully enjoy the benefits of democracy.

Bello also expressed his gratitude to Governor Yahaya for the developmental projects across the 11 LGAs of Gombe State and encouraged the governor to maintain this progress.

Malam Ibrahim El-Jasawy, another respected community member, highlighted the challenges posed by the broken bridge. “We find it very difficult to reach our homes due to the bridge’s condition,” he said. El-Jasawy appealed to Governor Yahaya’s administration to initiate more developmental projects in the area, enabling the community to reap the benefits of progress.

The proactive approach taken by the Shongo Hamma Hamma community in addressing their infrastructural challenges underscores the urgent need for government intervention to improve the quality of life for residents in Tumfure quarters and surrounding areas.
