Gombe State Inaugurates Human Capital Development Council

By Our Correspondent
In a landmark move to bolster socio-economic progress, the Gombe State government has inaugurated its Human Capital Development Council. The inauguration ceremony was spearheaded by Deputy Governor Manassah Daniel Jatau, who will serve as the council’s Chairman.
Deputy Governor Jatau underscored the pivotal role of human capital development in driving sustainable growth and enhancing the quality of life for Gombe State residents. “Human capital development is fundamental to our progress,” Jatau asserted. “It involves nurturing skills, education, and opportunities that empower our people and propel our state’s advancement.”
Addressing the newly appointed council members, Jatau emphasized their critical responsibility. “This appointment is not merely an honor but a clarion call to serve Gombe State with dedication,” he urged. He called for a collaborative and proactive approach to implement effective strategies for enhancing the state’s human resources.
“The task ahead is significant. Identifying true potential in a system often overshadowed by superficial efforts is challenging. Only through a psychological approach can we succeed,” he added.
Also speaking during the event Dr. Ishaku Babayo, the State Focal Person on Human Capital Development and Special Adviser to the Governor on Donors and Development Partners Coordination, presented an overview of the programme. He explained that the council aims to address key areas such as education, skills development, and employment, aligning with the state’s vision of sustainable development and improved citizen well-being.
According to him the programme focuses on three thematic areas: health and nutrition, education, and the labor force, and seeks collaboration with national and subnational governments as well as donor agencies. Dr. Babayo highlighted that the inauguration marks the start of the programme’s implementation, followed by the policy’s domestication within the state.
The deputy governor outlined the council’s terms of reference, which include developing and overseeing a state-specific human capital development strategy aligned with national goals, engaging stakeholders to mobilize investments, monitoring progress, evaluating interventions, and providing regular reports to the state executive council.
The council is composed of commissioners from various sectors, including Finance, Health, Agriculture, Education, Budget and Planning, Youth Development, Trade and Industry, and Women Affairs. Additional members include the Executive Secretary of the Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency, the Head of the Bureau of Statistics, and representatives from traditional institutions, local governments, NGOs, and civil society organizations. Dr. Ishaku Babayo will serve as the council’s Secretary.
This council’s establishment signifies a strategic step toward harnessing the potential of Gombe State’s human resources, ultimately fostering a more prosperous and sustainable future.

NATA Leaders Laud Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s Agro-Industrial Projects Urge Continued Support

By Our Political Reporter
The Vice President (North East) of the National Association of Technicians and Automobile (NATA), Engineer Ahmad Waziri Usman Doma, alongside the Chairman of NATA Gombe State Chapter, Alhaji Yakubu Garba (popularly known as SARKI), has commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his visionary agro-industrial transformation agenda in Gombe State.
Speaking during a press briefing in Gombe, the NATA leaders described the ongoing agro-industrial project as a game changer for the state’s economy, praising the governor’s foresight and determination in implementing development initiatives that directly benefit the people.
They highlighted the key components of the project, which include a state-of-the-art abattoir, an international cattle market, a tannery, leather processing facilities, and a dry inland port. These projects, they noted, are designed to strengthen value chains in the livestock and agricultural sectors and position Gombe as a key commercial hub in Northern Nigeria.
Engineer Usman Doma stated, “Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s commitment to transforming Gombe into an agro-industrial powerhouse is highly commendable. These facilities will not only enhance food security and job creation but also connect Gombe’s agricultural outputs to both local and international markets. This is the kind of leadership we need in the North East.”
Alhaji Yakubu Garba (SARKI) added, “We are very, very proud of Dan Majen Gombe, Governor Inuwa Yahaya. Gombawas appreciate his developmental strides. The entire NATA family stands firmly behind this administration and we call on all citizens to continue supporting the governor for the sustained progress of our dear state.”
The leaders also called on artisans, traders, and other professional groups across Gombe to take advantage of the opportunities that the agro-industrial project presents, assuring them of NATA’s readiness to partner with the government in realizing its development goals.
As Gombe State continues to attract national attention for its infrastructure and economic initiatives, the call for unity and support for the current administration is gaining momentum among professional bodies and stakeholders in the state.

He Did It Without Office- Falakin Funakaye Hails Dr. Ali Bappayo Maigoro Urges Him to Run In 2027

By Our Political Reporter
A prominent concern youth leader from Funakaye Local Government Area, Alhaji Umar Buba Magaji, popularly known as Falakin Funakaye, has lauded Dr. Ali Bappayo Maigoro for his outstanding humanitarian contributions across Gombe, Kwami, and Funakaye LGAs of Gombe State.
Speaking during an interaction with journalists, Falakin Funakaye praised Dr. Maigoro for his continued commitment to community development, especially in the areas of education, water supply, and youth empowerment — despite not currently holding any political office.
According to him, Dr. Maigoro has provided free JAMB registration forms to over 1,000 candidates across the three local governments. This intervention, he said, has brought hope to many less privileged students and families who might otherwise be unable to afford the registration fees.
In addition, Alhaji Umar Buba Magaji disclosed that numerous communities in the three LGAs have benefitted from borehole water projects sponsored by Dr. Maigoro, easing the burden of water scarcity, especially in rural areas.
The youth leader further highlighted Dr. Maigoro’s role in facilitating federal job placements for more than ten sons and daughters of the area a rare feat by someone outside government at the moment.
“These are the kind of people we need in leadership positions,” Alhaji Magaji said. “He has done all this without holding any political office. Imagine what he can do if we give him the mandate.”
He concluded by making a passionate appeal to Dr. Maigoro to heed the call of the people and contest in the 2027 general election to represent Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency, stating that the people are ready to support him.
Dr. Ali Bappayo Maigoro is a respected figure known for his grassroots engagements, and his rising popularity across the three LGAs suggests he could be a major contender should he decide to run in the next elections.

Garkuwan Cham, Micah Sunday Hamman, Rallies Support for President Tinubu’s Second Term and Governor Inuwa’s Senatorial Ambition

By Our Political Reporter
As political momentum builds ahead of the 2027 general elections, retired federal civil servant and respected community leader, Micah Sunday Hamman (Garkuwan Cham), has publicly declared his unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambition and the senatorial bid of Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, for Gombe North Senatorial District.
Hamman, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and former Director of Finance and Accounts at the State House, made the declaration in Gombe while speaking with journalists ahead of a high-profile political gathering scheduled for June 15, 2025.
According to him, President Tinubu has demonstrated purposeful leadership and a strong commitment to Nigeria’s economic revival, institutional reforms, and youth empowerment. “I am fully behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term. His policies are bold, his intentions are clear, and Nigeria is beginning to witness a gradual turnaround under his leadership,” Hamman stated.
He also threw his weight behind Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s anticipated senatorial ambition in Gombe North, describing the governor as “a leader with vision, results, and deep commitment to the grassroots.” He added that Governor Yahaya’s transition from executive to legislative leadership would bring great value to the people of Gombe North and the nation at large.
Welcomes APC North East Consultative Forum to Gombe
In further demonstration of his active political engagement post-retirement, Hamman welcomed the APC North East Consultative Forum to Gombe State for its regional meeting slated for June 15, 2025. The event is expected to bring together APC stakeholders and political strategists from across the six North East states—Gombe, Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Adamawa, and Taraba.
Describing the forum as timely and strategic, Hamman commended the organizers for choosing Gombe as the host state, saying it underscores the state’s growing political relevance in the region.
“I welcome all delegates of the APC North East Consultative Forum to Gombe. This meeting is coming at the right time as the party begins to mobilize for unity, strategic planning, and victory in the 2027 elections. I pray for a successful, impactful deliberation that will further strengthen the APC across the subregion,” he said.
A Legacy of Leadership and Service
Micah Sunday Hamman, who retired from the Federal Civil Service in October 2024, is widely respected for his outstanding public service career and consistent humanitarian activities. He holds multiple traditional titles across Gombe South and is currently the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Cham Progressive Association (CPA).
His foray into active politics is seen by many observers as a natural continuation of his lifelong service to the people and a powerful endorsement for political stability, continuity, and developmental progress in both Gombe State and the nation at large.
With figures like Hamman stepping into the political spotlight, the APC in the North East is poised for stronger unity and electoral success in the years ahead.
