Coalition of Northern Groups Condemn 100% Tuition Fee Hike in Gombe State University

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), Students Wing, Gombe State Chapter, has raised strong opposition to the recent 100% increment in tuition fees at Gombe State University.

In a press release signed by its Coordinator, Aliyu Yusuf Jalingo, the group criticized the decision, calling it an unfair move during a period of severe economic hardship affecting the majority of Nigerians.

“At these trying times, with the prevailing economic challenges in the country, we expected the government to subsidize education and make it more affordable to all. Unfortunately, instead, we received the distressing news of a 100% increase in tuition fees at Gombe State University,” the statement read.

The group emphasized that education should remain accessible to students from all economic backgrounds, warning that the new fee structure could force many students to drop out of school.

“Many students cannot afford to attend school anymore if this policy remains. We hereby call on the government to reconsider and reverse this decision for the sake of educational development and social equity,” Jalingo added.

The tuition hike has sparked widespread concern among parents, students, and civil society groups in the state, who argue that the increase contradicts efforts to ensure inclusive education. Many have called on the state government to prioritize education as a tool for social and economic development.

As the call for a reversal grows louder, stakeholders await a response from the state government regarding this controversial decision.

Efforts to contact officials at Gombe State University for comments were unsuccessful at the time of publication.

The Coalition of Northern Groups has vowed to continue advocating for accessible and affordable education in Gombe State, urging all relevant stakeholders to join the cause.

ADC Gombe Chairman Extends Eid-el-Fitr Greetings, Condemns Killings in Edo State

The Acting Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gombe State, Danladi Ya’u, has extended heartfelt felicitations to Muslim faithful across Nigeria on the occasion of the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr celebration, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement released on Sunday in Gombe, Ya’u underscored the importance of Ramadan, highlighting its role in strengthening faith through fasting, prayers, and the recitation of the Holy Qur’an. He urged Muslims to continue embodying the virtues of the holy month, including perseverance, humility, hospitality, and good neighborliness.

“The essence of Ramadan goes beyond abstinence; it is about cultivating a life of discipline, compassion, and devotion to Allah. As we celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, let us remain steadfast in practicing these values,” Ya’u said.

The ADC leader called on Nigerians, irrespective of religious and political differences, to pray for peace, security, and economic progress in the nation. Expressing sorrow over the recent brutal killing of travelers in Edo State, Ya’u strongly condemned the attack and urged security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice swiftly.

“Such heinous acts threaten the fabric of our nation. We must unite against violence and embrace peace for a stronger Nigeria,” he added.

He further advised motorists to exercise caution on the roads and obey traffic regulations to ensure a safe and joyous celebration.

“I wish all Muslims a blessed and peaceful Eid-el-Fitr. May Allah accept our worship and prayers and grant us prosperity and unity in Nigeria,” Ya’u concluded.
