NUJ President Alhassan Yahaya Abdullahi Pledges to Prioritize Journalist Welfare

The newly elected National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahaya Abdullahi, has pledged to prioritize the welfare of journalists across Nigeria.
Abdullahi made this commitment during a grand reception organized in his honor at White Hills Hotel, Gombe, following his victory in the recently concluded NUJ national election.
Addressing a distinguished audience of journalists, government officials, and media executives, Abdullahi emphasized his administration’s focus on securing better working conditions, fair remuneration, and enhanced safety measures for journalists in the country.
> “The welfare of journalists is my first priority. Media professionals play a vital role in shaping society, and it is essential that their rights, safety, and professional development are protected,” he stated.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya Pledges Support for Gombe NUJ Press Centre
Speaking on behalf of Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli, congratulated Abdullahi on his election and reaffirmed the state government’s unwavering support for journalists.
Misilli announced that Governor Yahaya had pledged to ensure the completion of the NUJ Press Centre in Gombe State, a long-awaited project aimed at providing a conducive work environment for media professionals.
> “The governor recognizes the importance of a functional press centre and has assured that the project will be completed to support journalists in the state,” Misilli stated.

The reception, held at White Hills Hotel, Gombe, attracted a host of prominent personalities, including:

A New Era for Nigerian Journalists
As he assumes office, Comrade Abdullahi outlined the key initiatives his administration will focus on:
Advocating for better salaries and improved working conditions for journalists.
Ensuring press freedom and journalist safety.
Organizing capacity-building programs and training opportunities.
Strengthening collaboration between journalists and policymakers.
The event concluded on a high note, with journalists expressing confidence that Abdullahi’s leadership would bring meaningful reforms to the NUJ.
With the Gombe State government and other stakeholders pledging their support, there is renewed hope that the NUJ Press Centre will soon be completed, enhancing the work environment and professional development of journalists in the state.
Welcome Address by NUJ Gombe Chairman, Faruk Muazu Gombe
Earlier in the event, the Chairman of NUJ Gombe State Council, Faruk Muazu Gombe, delivered a heartfelt welcome address, celebrating Abdullahi’s historic achievement as the first Gombe indigene to lead the NUJ at the national level.
> “Today, we celebrate a historic moment—the first time a son of Gombe has risen to lead our great union at the national level. This achievement is a testament to Alhassan’s dedication, hard work, and commitment to the journalism profession.”
Muazu commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his support of journalism in the state, citing his administration’s efforts in digitizing the Gombe Media Corporation (GMC) and facilitating NUJ’s participation in the NUJ National Delegates Conference in Owerri.
However, he made a passionate appeal to the governor to expedite the completion of the NUJ secretariat in Gombe, stressing that its completion would significantly improve working conditions for journalists in the state.
> “This project has been lingering for too long. Its completion will provide a conducive working environment for journalists,” Muazu pleaded.
The event concluded with a renewed sense of purpose among journalists, who expressed optimism that Abdullahi’s leadership would usher in a new era of progress for the NUJ and the journalism profession in Nigeria.

Mai Kaltungo Calls for Education and Investment at 2025 Eid-el-Fitr Celebration

The Mai Kaltungo, Engineer Saleh Muhammad, who also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Gombe State Council of Emirs and Chiefs, has called on the people of Kaltungo Chiefdom to prioritize both Islamic and Western education. He further urged sons and daughters of Kaltungo Local Government Area to invest in their hometowns to foster development and improve the lives of their communities.
The call was made during the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr celebration held at the Mai Kaltungo Palace, where Engineer Saleh Muhammad emphasized the importance of education in empowering the youth and promoting growth. He encouraged indigenes of Kaltungo to contribute to the development of the area by establishing businesses and supporting local initiatives.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of Kaltungo Local Government Council, Dr. Iliya Sulaiman, urged the people of Kaltungo Chiefdom to live in peace and harmony with one another. He called on the Muslim Ummah to continue praying for peace in the community and the nation at large. Dr. Sulaiman prayed that Allah (SWT) would accept their Ibadah during the holy month of Ramadan.
The two-rakat Eid prayers, marking the end of Ramadan, were led by the Chief Imam of Kaltungo, Sheikh Muhammad Hamman Joda, who prayed for peace, unity, and prosperity for Kaltungo Chiefdom and Nigeria as a whole.
The celebration attracted the District Head, village heads, and thousands of residents who gathered at the Mai Kaltungo Palace. The event featured colorful cultural displays, showcasing the rich heritage and traditions of the Kaltungo people.
The 2025 Eid-el-Fitr celebration in Kaltungo Chiefdom was a memorable occasion marked by unity, cultural pride, and renewed calls for progress and development.

Alhaji Abdulkadir Hamma Saleh Felicitates with Muslim Ummah in Gombe, Calls for Unity and Party Success

In a personally signed statement, Alhaji Abdulkadir Hamma Saleh, on behalf of his family, expressed profound gratitude to Almighty Allah for granting Muslims the strength and devotion to observe the fast and engage in acts of worship throughout the holy month. He prayed for Allah’s acceptance of all prayers and supplications offered during Ramadan and for abundant rewards to the Muslim community.
He urged Muslims in Gombe State to remain steadfast in their faith, continue to pray for peace, unity, and progress, and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood. He also called on members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to work diligently toward the party’s success, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts for a prosperous and united Gombe State.
Alhaji Abdulkadir Hamma Saleh extended his Sallah greetings to His Royal Highness, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, the Emir of Gombe and Chairman of the Gombe State Council of Emirs and Chiefs, acknowledging his leadership and praying for continued wisdom and good health.
He thanked PDP leaders in Gombe State for their dedication and sacrifices from the ward to the state level, appreciating party youths, elders, stakeholders, men, and women for their unwavering support. He urged party members to remain united and committed to achieving success.
