The Gombe State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has joined the global celebration of World Civil Defence Day, showcasing its efforts to enhance security and safety in the state.

During the event, Commandant Gyama Gyawiya emphasized the significance of the day as an opportunity to reflect on the Corps’ dedication to protecting lives and property.

He praised the commitment and professionalism of his personnel and led a symbolic road rally through major streets in Gombe to mark the occasion.

In his address, Gyawiya highlighted the contributions of the NSCDC Agro Rangers unit, which plays a vital role in ensuring peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders, particularly during harvest seasons. “The Agro Rangers unit is instrumental in fostering harmony in agricultural communities,” he stated.

The Commandant acknowledged the support of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who refurbished the command’s patrol vehicles and donated three additional ones to improve operational efficiency.

He also expressed gratitude to the Gadam community for donating a Hilux vehicle to further aid NSCDC activities in the area.

The celebration saw the participation of 300 officers and personnel, demonstrating the Corps’ readiness to address security challenges in Gombe. However, Gyawiya noted the issue of limited manpower and encouraged citizens to apply for recruitment when opportunities arise.

This year’s theme, “Guarantee of Security for the Population,” underscores the NSCDC’s mission to safeguard lives, property, and critical infrastructure.

Reaffirming the Corps’ dedication to professionalism, patriotism, and excellence, Gyawiya outlined their achievements in intelligence gathering, disaster management, crisis response, and infrastructure protection.

He also stressed the importance of collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders to address security challenges effectively.

“As we celebrate this special day, I urge all officers and personnel of the Gombe State Command to uphold the values of integrity, discipline, and service to humanity,” he added.

World Civil Defence Day, observed annually on March 1, serves as a platform to highlight the global mission of civil defence in safeguarding lives and ensuring public safety.
