The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has warned that at least 18 states across the country will experience extreme heat for the next four days.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, NiMet advised residents to avoid exposure to the scorching sun, especially between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., when temperatures are expected to peak.

The states projected to experience heightened temperatures include Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Kogi, Nasarawa, Benue, Enugu, Anambra, and Abia. Others are Ebonyi, Cross River, Taraba, Adamawa, Plateau, Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

NiMet urged residents in these states to stay hydrated by drinking sufficient water, using fans and air conditioning where possible, and seeking shade to minimize exposure to the heat.

The agency also noted that the high temperatures could cause noticeable changes in weather conditions over the period, advising the public to take necessary precautions to protect their health.
