Tension has gripped residents of Bamusa area in Gombe metropolis following the theft of a solar battery from a local mosque on Tuesday night.
The stolen item, a T-Tubular Battery GLOW 16590 (GLOW ENERGY), was installed at the Malam Abdulmumini Mosque to power its solar system. According to a reliable source who spoke to Daily Facts Online in Gombe, the incident occurred between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2027.
An eyewitness confirmed the theft, stating that although the identity of the perpetrator remains unknown, the community suspects it was carried out by someone familiar with the mosque’s layout.
In a statement issued by the mosque’s leadership, worshippers and residents of the area were urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement or persons to the nearest security agency or police station.
“This act is not just a theft against the mosque, but a betrayal of trust in the community,” the statement read. “We call on the public to assist in tracking down the culprit by sharing any useful information that can lead to the arrest of the thief.”
The battery was part of the mosque’s solar system used to power lights and speakers for congregational prayers. Its theft has disrupted the mosque’s operations and left worshippers in darkness during night prayers.
Local leaders and members of the neighborhood have condemned the incident and called for improved security around places of worship, especially at night.
As at the time of filing this report, no arrest has been made, and the police are yet to issue an official statement.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the nearest police station.
