The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is facing mounting scrutiny after rejecting the resignation of its Hausa Service Editor, Aliyu Abdullahi Tanko, who was recently suspended over workplace harassment allegations.

Tanko was handed a three-month suspension on Wednesday following complaints by some former employees who accused him of inappropriate conduct in the workplace. In response, he reportedly submitted his resignation letter on Thursday, but the organisation declined to accept it.

The controversy deepened after a viral video featuring former BBC staff member, Halima Umar Salah, who appeared on an Arewa24 programme, alleged that harassment was widespread within the organisation. While Salah did not mention any specific names, her claims have fueled public criticism of the BBC’s handling of internal grievances.

The rejection of Tanko’s resignation has sparked further debate, with many questioning whether the broadcaster is committed to addressing workplace misconduct allegations transparently.
