Emir of Fika Endorses DJAI’s Upcoming Charity Outreach in Potiskum

As part of preparations for its 7th annual charity programme slated for October 4 in Potiskum, Yobe State, the leadership of the Dangin Juna Afrika Initiative (DJAI) has paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Fika and Chairman of the Yobe State Council of Chiefs to seek royal blessings and support.

Welcoming the delegation, the Emirate Council, represented by the Senior District Head of Ganama, Alhaji Adamu Ba’aba, commended DJAI for its proactive approach and respect for traditional protocols.

He emphasized the need for collaboration with district heads to properly identify the most vulnerable groups who will benefit from the initiative.

Alhaji Ba’aba also urged DJAI to involve the Emirate Council in the planning and execution of the programme to ensure local insights and leadership are fully integrated.

He further conveyed the Emir’s appreciation and blessings, noting that the Emirate was pleased that Potiskum had been chosen as a host community for the outreach.

Earlier, the DJAI National Chairman, Alhaji Usman Musa BK, expressed gratitude to the Emir of Fika and his council for granting the audience.

He explained that the visit was meant to strengthen collaboration with the Emirate ahead of the humanitarian programme.

Responding to inquiries from the Secretary of the Emirate Council on the type of services to be provided, Alhaji Usman explained that DJAI activities are usually proposed by local chapters in line with the organisation’s constitution, and later reviewed by the National Executive Committee based on relevance, impact, and available resources.

He revealed that this year’s outreach may feature food distribution, medical outreach, educational support, empowerment initiatives, and other welfare-based interventions designed to uplift the needy.

INEC Gombe Trains RAOs, Steps Up Preparations for Voter Registration Exercise

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Gombe State has commenced training for its Registration Area Officers (RAOs) ahead of the takeoff of in-person voter registration across the state.

The training, which began at the Hajiya Amina Inuwa Gombe Women Development Centre, is part of preparations for the 2025/2026 Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. Participants included RAOs and Electoral Officers from the 11 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state, staff of the Voter Registry/ICT department, and members of the state management team.

In his opening remarks, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Gombe State, Dr. Sa’ad Umar Idris, urged INEC staff to demonstrate professionalism and integrity in the discharge of their duties. He emphasized that the credibility of elections begins with a transparent and credible voter registration process.

“The credibility of any election begins with a credible registration process,” Dr. Idris said, adding that the forthcoming CVR exercise would not be “business as usual.” He reassured RAOs that their entitlements would be duly paid but warned that lapses such as delegating responsibilities to unauthorized persons would attract strict sanctions.

The REC further stressed the importance of supervision by Electoral Officers at the local government level, noting that he would personally monitor the exercise through field visits and feedback from the public.

As part of preparations, Dr. Idris had earlier approved the distribution of public address systems to LGA offices to support voter education and sensitization efforts on the CVR. He also directed the Head of VR/ICT to ensure proper configuration of the INEC Voter Enlightenment Device (IVED) and prioritize practical simulations during the training.

The training is expected to equip INEC staff with refreshed knowledge and technical skills, particularly in the use of updated registration software, thereby ensuring a seamless exercise when voter registration formally begins.

With these measures, INEC Gombe says it is committed to delivering a free, fair, and credible electoral process, beginning with the foundation of credible voter registration.
