In a major boost to humanitarian services in Gombe State, the Qatar Charity Foundation, in collaboration with the Gombe State Government, has officially handed over a newly constructed ultra-modern orphanage home to the Gombe State Da’awah and Relief Organization.

The modern facility, situated along the Bye-Pass Road opposite the Gombe State High Court, is a comprehensive centre designed to provide education, shelter, healthcare, and vocational training for orphans and vulnerable children.

The orphanage complex features 10 modern classrooms, 10 well-built shops, and a fully equipped clinic with dedicated sections for women, children, and adults, including female wards. It also houses a large hostel containing 10 furnished rooms complete with beds, mattresses, and pillows, an administrative office, and a spacious multipurpose hall for events and community activities.

In addition, the facility includes four staff quarters made up of two-bedroom flats each, a standard school, and a skills acquisition centre aimed at empowering the orphans and members of the surrounding community with vocational skills for self-reliance.

Speaking during an inspection visit to the facility, Dr. Muhammad Lawan, Chairman of the Gombe State Da’awah and Relief Organization, expressed deep gratitude to the Qatar Charity Foundation and the Gombe State Government under the leadership of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for entrusting the organization with the management of the facility.

> “We sincerely appreciate Qatar Charity Foundation and the Gombe State Government for finding us worthy to manage this modern orphanage home. This project is a blessing to the entire state and a great step towards improving the welfare of orphans,” Dr. Lawan said.

Dr. Lawan also called on wealthy individuals and philanthropists to emulate the gesture by extending support to orphans and vulnerable children, emphasizing that caring for orphans is a moral and religious obligation.

He disclosed that the new orphanage will begin operations soon with an initial 100 orphans drawn from the 11 Local Government Areas of Gombe State. According to him, the organization is committed to ensuring that the children not only receive education and shelter but also acquire skills that will make them independent in the future.

Dr. Lawan further revealed the organization’s ongoing financial commitment to orphan care in the state, noting that the Da’awah and Relief Organization currently spends ₦2.25 million monthly on one of its existing orphanage homes, while another facility accommodating 63 orphans costs about ₦3.78 million monthly. In addition, the organization spends about ₦3.39 million annually on other orphans under its care.

He explained that despite the financial burden, the organization remains committed to its mission of supporting the less privileged and appealed for more public and private sector assistance.

During the inspection visit, executives of the Da’awah and Relief Organization toured the new facility and commended the quality of work done, describing the project as a milestone achievement that will transform the lives of many orphans across the state.

With the handover of this modern orphanage home, Gombe State continues to demonstrate its leadership in humanitarian services, social welfare, and inclusive development in the North-East region.

A journalist with over a decade of experience, Usmaniyyah’s career began at Aso Radio Abuja’s Hausa Service, where he received professional training. He later moved to Raypower AIT Gombe before joining Progress FM Gombe in 2015. The station, owned by Dr. Ibraheem Biu and managed by Hajia Sadiya Ibrahim, has played a crucial role in supporting his philanthropic efforts.

The Hannu Dayawa Foundation carries out periodic distributions, with a strong emphasis on Ramadan, a time when many families struggle to afford basic necessities. This year, the foundation provided rice, millet, maize, and cash assistance to thousands of beneficiaries across Galadimari, London Maidoruwa, Checheniya, Kagarawal, and Tumfure in Gombe State.

Operating in two phases, the initiative ensures that food relief reaches as many people as possible. Meanwhile, the foundation remains open to contributions from philanthropists, urging well-meaning individuals to support its mission of alleviating hardship.

Beyond humanitarian work, Usmaniyyah is calling on fellow journalists, especially on-air personalities (DCA), to leverage their platforms and expertise in creating initiatives that uplift communities.
