The Gombe State Government has expressed readiness to deepen its partnership with Radio Nigeria Jewel FM, Gombe, particularly in promoting people-oriented projects and programmes aimed at improving the lives of citizens across the state.

The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Moses Kyari, stated this when he led a delegation from the ministry on a courtesy visit to the management of Radio Nigeria Jewel FM, Gombe, as part of efforts to strengthen the relationship between the government and media organisations in the state.

Mr. Kyari commended Jewel FM for its contribution to public enlightenment and for giving adequate publicity to developmental programmes and projects being implemented by the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

He noted that the station’s enlightenment programmes provide citizens with relevant information on government policies, programmes and initiatives, describing the media as an important partner in bridging the communication gap between government and the people.

The Commissioner said the existing cordial relationship between the Gombe State Government and Jewel FM would be further strengthened to promote people-oriented policies and programmes of the administrations of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Inuwa Yahaya.

He also assured the station of his commitment to supporting initiatives capable of improving its operations and enhancing effective information dissemination across the state.

Responding, the General Manager of Radio Nigeria Jewel FM, Gombe, Mallam Zubairu Ahmad Kumo, appreciated the Commissioner and his delegation for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of the strong relationship between the station and the state government.

Mallam Kumo reaffirmed Jewel FM’s commitment to constructive, balanced and responsible journalism, stressing that the station would continue to provide credible information that contributes to the development of Gombe State and Nigeria.

He expressed appreciation to the Gombe State Government for its intervention in matters concerning the station, describing the gesture as an indication of the cordial relationship between the government and Radio Nigeria Jewel FM.

The General Manager also commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for the implementation of various developmental projects aimed at improving the welfare and living conditions of residents across the state.

He further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the dualisation of the Gombe-Biu Road in Borno State, saying the project would enhance connectivity, facilitate movement and boost economic activities among communities along the route.

Mallam Kumo assured the Gombe State Government and other relevant stakeholders that Radio Nigeria Jewel FM would continue to partner with them in promoting policies, programmes and initiatives that advance the development of Gombe State and the country at large.

The League for Societal Protection Against Drug Abuse (LESPADA), Gombe State Chapter, has taken steps to strengthen the fight against drug abuse by seeking strategic collaboration with the Gombe State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

The visit, which took place on 15th January 2026, was led by the Gombe State Coordinator of LESPADA, Comrade Isma’ila Mohammed, alongside members of the organisation.

At the start of the meeting, Comrade Isma’ila Mohammed formally introduced himself and members of his delegation, explaining that the purpose of the visit was to explore areas of partnership with the ministry in addressing the increasing rate of drug abuse among youths in the state.

He noted that drug abuse remains a major threat to youth development, contributing to social problems such as thuggery, theft, violence, and other social vices, which undermine peace and progress in society. According to him, collaboration with relevant government institutions is critical to achieving meaningful and sustainable results.

In his welcome address, the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Alhaji Adamu Inuwa Pantami, expressed gratitude to Almighty God and commended LESPADA for recognizing the strategic role of the ministry in youth development.

The Commissioner assured the organisation of the ministry’s full cooperation and support, stressing that its mandate is to promote the welfare, empowerment, and positive engagement of youths across the state.

He stated that the ministry is open and willing to partner with individuals and organisations whose initiatives are aimed at improving the lives of young people and steering them away from destructive behaviours.

Alhaji Pantami further emphasized that drug abuse poses a serious danger to the future of the state’s youth population and called for collective efforts involving government agencies, civil society groups, community leaders, and parents to tackle the menace.

In his closing remarks, Comrade Isma’ila Mohammed expressed deep appreciation to the Honourable Commissioner and the management of the ministry for the warm reception and positive response.

He reaffirmed LESPADA’s commitment to youth sensitization, advocacy, and preventive education on the dangers of drug abuse. He also presented the Commissioner with informational and educational materials designed to raise awareness on the harmful effects of drug abuse among youths.

The visit ended on a note of mutual understanding, with both parties expressing readiness to work together towards building a healthier, safer, and drug-free youth population in Gombe State.

In a renewed push to curb drug abuse and protect young people from substance-related harm, the League for Societal Protection against drug abuse (LESPADA) initiative has paid an advocacy visit to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Gombe State Command, to strengthen collaboration on drug abuse prevention and community sensitization.

The delegation was led by the Coordinator of LESPADA, Ismaila Mohammed, who emphasized the urgent need for sustained partnerships in addressing the growing challenge of drug abuse, particularly among youths in Gombe State. He noted that prevention, education, and early intervention remain critical tools in safeguarding communities from the devastating effects of illicit drugs.

According to Ismaila Mohammed, LESPADA has been actively engaging communities through awareness campaigns, school outreaches, and support for vulnerable groups, adding that working closely with NDLEA would enhance the reach and impact of these interventions.

Receiving the delegation, the Gombe State Commandant of the NDLEA, Mohammed Maijama’a, welcomed the initiative and described the visit as timely and strategic. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to collaborating with civil society organizations to intensify public enlightenment, especially at the grassroots level.

Commandant Maijama’a stressed that drug abuse poses a serious threat to public health, security, and socio-economic development, noting that no single institution can win the fight alone. He called for a united front involving government agencies, non-governmental organizations, traditional institutions, religious leaders, and the media.

Both parties agreed to explore joint programs focusing on youth sensitization, community outreach, advocacy, and rehabilitation support, with the shared goal of promoting a drug-free society and protecting lives.

The meeting concluded with a mutual pledge to sustain the partnership and translate discussions into concrete actions that will positively impact communities across Gombe State.
