The leadership crisis rocking the Gombe State Students Association (GOSSA) has taken a new turn as the Students Representative Assembly (SRA), the legislative arm of the association, has officially suspended the GOSSA National Executive Council (NEC) led by Muhammad Al-amin Bako.

According to an official announcement issued by the SRA National Headquarters and signed by its Speaker, Ambassador Sadiq Aliyu Kamara, the suspension takes immediate effect following findings of constitutional violations, illegal tenure extension, and mounting outcry from students across institutions.

“The Students Representative Assembly has assumed leadership of GOSSA with immediate effect. This decision followed a thorough review of constitutional breaches and the extended stay in office of the current executives, who have already completed their NYSC,” the statement read in part.

The Assembly further disclosed that it has formally notified relevant security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force, Gombe State Command. Copies of the suspension letter, duly stamped and acknowledged by the agencies, were attached as confirmation of official recognition of the action.

The suspended president, Muhammad Al-amin Bako, a student of Gombe State University, was sworn into office on 22nd February 2024. However, the SRA noted that both he and his executive council members had overstayed their mandate, leading to widespread discontent among students.

While the Assembly has stepped in to stabilize the association’s leadership, it called on all stakeholders, students, and the general public to take note of the development, stressing its commitment to safeguarding the unity and integrity of GOSSA.

“In unity we stand, and in truth we lead,” the statement concluded.
