Farmers, Herders Clash in Gombe Community as Residents Cry for Urgent Government Intervention.

Residents of Daban Fulani Community in Kwami Local Government Area of Gombe State have appealed to the Federal, State, and Local Governments to urgently intervene in the recurring clashes between farmers and herders, warning that the crisis is threatening lives, livelihoods, and food production in the area.

Some victims of the latest incident, Adamu Abdullahi and Muhammad Idris, who sustained injuries during the clash, alleged that herders allowed their cattle to stray into cultivated farmlands, destroying crops and other farm inputs worth millions of naira.

The victims said the destruction has left many farmers devastated and uncertain about this year’s harvest, especially after making significant investments in the current farming season.

According to them, the situation escalated when they attempted to prevent the cattle from grazing on their farms. They alleged that they were attacked with cutlasses and sticks by some of the herders, resulting in various degrees of injuries.

The injured farmers called on security agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible for the attack, stressing that justice must be served to deter future violence.

They also appealed to the government to strengthen security in the community, protect lives and property, and take proactive measures to prevent further clashes between farmers and herders.

The residents further urged traditional rulers, community leaders, and other critical stakeholders to intensify dialogue and promote peaceful coexistence between farming and herding communities as a lasting solution to the recurring conflict.

Efforts to obtain the reaction of the herders over the allegations were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

Pindiga town in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State was thrown into mourning in the early hours of Sunday after suspected armed kidnappers launched a deadly attack that left two people dead and six others abducted.

According to a press release issued by the Gombe State Police Command, the incident occurred at about 3:30 a.m. on December 28, 2025, when armed men invaded residential homes along the Pindiga–Kashere Road.

Police said the attackers stormed the residence of the first set of victims, where they shot Yusuf Mohammed, 31, and Faiza Mohammed, 28. The assailants also abducted a 16-year-old girl, Zainab Mohammed Yusuf, before fleeing the scene.

The gunmen were said to have proceeded to another nearby residence belonging to Alhaji Yayaji Abdullahi, where they abducted his wife, Summai Alhaji Yayaji, 35, and their two children — Al’amin Alhaji Yayaji, 11, and Fatima Abdullahi, 14.

The two victims who sustained gunshot wounds were rushed to the Cottage Hospital in Pindiga for urgent medical attention but were later confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

Following the distress report, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, accompanied by a team of senior officers, visited the scene of the attack. During the visit, six empty shells of AK-47 ammunition and one live round were recovered, indicating the use of high-powered firearms by the assailants.

The Police Command said tactical and intelligence-led operations have been intensified in and around the affected areas. Hunters and local vigilante groups have also been mobilized to support security efforts aimed at rescuing the abducted victims and apprehending the perpetrators.

Condemning the attack, the Gombe State Police Command described the incident as a heinous crime and assured residents that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The police further urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could aid ongoing investigations.

The press release, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, assured that further updates would be made available as investigations progress.

The attack has heightened fears among residents of Pindiga and surrounding communities, with many calling for strengthened security presence to curb the rising threat of armed criminality in the area.
