The Command says the initiative is also aimed at strengthening police-youth partnerships and fostering constructive communication between the security agency and young people.

The International Youth Day programme comes at a time when young people remain central to discussions on peace, security, digital responsibility, health and sustainable development.

By Daily Facts Editor

The Gombe State Government has assured victims of the 2024 End Bad Governance protest that relief is underway, following the recent submission of a detailed damage assessment report to the Governor.

Dr. Usman Maijama’a Kallamu, the Commissioner for Works and Chairman of the Damage Assessment Committee, gave this assurance while responding to an exclusive interview by Daily Facts Online with Alhaji Wadaji Umar Lawan, a prominent agrodealer in Gombe who claimed to have lost goods worth over ₦50 million during the protest.

“We have concluded and submitted our report just three weeks ago to His Excellency, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya. I want to assure all victims, including Alhaji Wadaji, that the government will do everything possible to support them. God willing, they will soon receive relief and assistance as expected,” Dr. Maijama’a Kallamu said.

It would be recalled that on August 1, 2024, youth and women across the 36 states of Nigeria and the FCT staged coordinated protests under the End Bad Governance movement. In Gombe, the protest led to significant damages to shops and properties, particularly around commercial hubs like the Bima Lodge area, where Alhaji Wadaji’s agro-chemical business was located.

In the weeks following the unrest, the Gombe State Government set up a committee headed by the Works Commissioner to assess the level of destruction and identify affected individuals and businesses.

When Daily Facts Online reached out to other members of the committee for comment, they deferred, noting that only the Commissioner for Works was authorized to speak on the matter.

Alhaji Wadaji had earlier expressed frustration over what he described as “silence” from both state and federal authorities, despite the extensive data collected from victims months ago. He urged the government to match its words with action, warning that many affected businesses might never recover without swift intervention.

Now, with the damage report officially submitted and the government’s promise renewed, hope may be on the horizon for victims still grappling with the fallout of last year’s protest.

Daily Facts Online will continue to follow this story and provide updates as the government begins the disbursement of relief to affected persons.
