A strong wave of grassroots endorsements has surged in Gombe State as various community-based groups have declared their support for Malam Aminu Yuguda, the current Accountant General of the state, urging Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to endorse him as his successor ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial elections.

The endorsement followed a major outreach initiative by the Malam Aminu Yuguda Foundation, which made substantial donations to traders, food vendors, fruit sellers, widows, and youths across the 11 Local Government Areas of the state. The donations, aimed at boosting small businesses and alleviating economic hardship, sparked a unified declaration of support for Yuguda from these groups.

The delegation that delivered the donations was led by Comrade Idris Maheer Kumo, Chairman of the Gombe State Radio and TV Promoters Forum under the All Progressives Congress (APC). Comrade Maheer, while addressing the beneficiaries, praised Malam Yuguda’s consistent contributions to community development and urged the recipients to utilize the funds to grow their businesses and improve their livelihoods.

Among those who voiced their support for Yuguda were:

Muhammad Isiyaku, leader of the Traders’ Association

Kasimu Ibrahim, head of the Food Vendors’ Union

Umar Zaiyanu Kuri, representing the Fruit Sellers

Aishatu Garba Yakubu, leader of a Widows’ Support Group

Muhammad Kabiru Abdullahi Bolari, the youth leader representing youths across the 11 LGAs

Speaking in unity, the group leaders described Malam Aminu Yuguda as a “man of the people” with a proven track record of service, humility, and economic empowerment. They appealed directly to Governor Inuwa Yahaya to consider Malam Yuguda as the most capable and prepared candidate to continue the developmental strides of the current administration.

Comrade Idris Maheer added that Gombe State needs a visionary and compassionate leader who understands the needs of the people — qualities he said Malam Yuguda possesses in abundance.

“Malam Aminu Yuguda has always been there for the people of Gombe,” Comrade Maheer said. “We call on Governor Inuwa Yahaya to look no further than his Accountant General, who has consistently demonstrated loyalty, performance, and love for the people.”

With political activities gradually picking up pace ahead of the 2027 elections, this strong show of grassroots backing could significantly shape the succession narrative in Gombe State’s political landscape.

Prominent Islamic scholar and educationist, Dr. Auwal Abdullahi widely known as Gafakan Akko has declared his support for a nationwide coalition of political parties working to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking to journalists in Gombe, Dr. Auwal said Nigeria has reached a critical point where it can no longer endure what he described as the “failures and anti-people policies” of the APC-led administration.

According to him, the unity of opposition parties, especially those rallying under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), offers a credible alternative for rescuing the country from its current state of crisis.

“From rising hunger to worsening insecurity, economic hardship to mass unemployment every aspect of life in Nigeria has deteriorated under the APC government,” he said. “Millions of Nigerians are in distress, and the time to say ‘enough is enough’ has come.”

Dr. Auwal emphasized that the negative impact of bad governance under the APC has spared no region or religious group, noting that the burden is shared by all Nigerians regardless of background.

“Whether you’re a farmer, trader, civil servant, or entrepreneur, everyone is feeling the pinch.The cost of living is unbearable, and the poor are suffering the most,” he added.

He called on Nigerians across tribes, faiths, and political affiliations to unite behind a common goal of reclaiming the country from what he termed “a grip of corruption, insensitivity, and failed leadership.”

The scholar also appealed for spiritual reflection and divine intervention, urging citizens to combine prayer with active civic participation as the country approaches the next election cycle.

“This is a national emergency. We must seek God’s guidance while also taking bold political steps to protect the future of our children and generations to come,” he said.

Dr. Auwal’s remarks come amid intensifying efforts by opposition forces to form a united front ahead of the 2027 elections, as public frustration with the current administration continues to mount.

In a bold political statement that has further deepened the crisis within Nigeria’s main opposition party, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, a former governor of Sokoto State and prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has openly criticized Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for allegedly working against the interest of the PDP while serving in an All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

Speaking during a political gathering in Abuja on Sunday, Tambuwal declared that despite remaining bonafide members of the PDP, many loyal opposition figures would channel their energy and support to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the next elections—insisting it is a better platform to rescue Nigeria than the APC or a compromised PDP.

> “We are still members of the PDP, and we are going nowhere. But let me be clear: we will not fold our arms and watch the party rot from within. If working with the ADC will help realign the true progressive opposition in this country, then we will do it,” Tambuwal said to roaring applause.

In what many see as a veiled but unmistakable jab at Wike, Tambuwal added:

> “Some people say they are in PDP, but their hearts, hands, and entire machinery are working for the APC. That is political dishonesty. If you want to leave, be bold enough to declare it. But don’t sabotage from within.”

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, has faced growing criticism from within the PDP for accepting a ministerial appointment from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling APC, despite claiming allegiance to the opposition party. Many within the PDP see his actions as undermining party unity and aiding the APC’s consolidation of power.

Tambuwal’s comments come amid growing agitation for the unification of Nigeria’s fractured opposition, especially as the ADC-led Coalition of Political Opposition Movements (CPOM) gains momentum across the country. The coalition has been calling for the alignment of all credible opposition figures to present a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sources within the PDP confirm that several top figures are unhappy with Wike’s dual allegiances and are pushing for disciplinary actions or a full internal restructuring to sanitize the party.

As the political landscape heats up, Senator Tambuwal’s declaration may mark a turning point for opposition politics in Nigeria—signaling the rise of ADC as a potential rallying point for those disillusioned with both the PDP leadership and the APC government.
